Adjunct Instructor Jane Wood-Smith received her formative training at the Washington School of Ballet in Washington, D.C. and at 15 was invited to perform with the Grand Theatre de Geneve in Geneva, Switzerland under the direction of Patricia Neary and George Balanchine.
Jane is a former Principal Dancer with Ballet West and performed most every major role in the classical ballet repertoire, including the title roles in Romeo and Juliet, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Swan Lake, Cinderella, Coppelia, and The Lady of the Camelias, as well as a full range of contemporary ballets created by world renowned choreographers.
Retiring after 21 years with Ballet West, Jane became the Faculty Coordinator for the Ballet West Conservatory. She also taught Ballet West Company classes and at the Ballet West Academy. Among her many other teaching credentials, Jane lists two years as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Florida State University Department of Dance.
Jane has a BFA in Ballet-Performance Emphasis from the University of Utah and taught there as an Adjunct Assistant Professor. She continues to teach there as a regular guest teacher for the company, second company, trainees and the Academy, and conducts auditions across the nation for the Ballet West Summer Intensive.
Jane teaches upper level ballet classes at Dance Works of Enid and we are delighted to have her in our dance family.
